The 2024 Cart Rider Cup concluded with an electrifying display of golf prowess as Team Transfusion decisively defeated Team John Daly with a final score of 16 - 8.
The event, held at the Neshanic Valley Golf Course, one of New Jersey's finest public courses, was conducted over three formats of match play: Pinehurst, four ball, and singles. One point was awarded for a match win, and a half point was awarded for a tied match. A medalist competition was held concurrently.
Teams were named after popular golf course libations.
Support for the Cart Rider Cup was provided by Matera's Italian Market and Acorn Hills. Scoring was powered by Unknown Golf.
A Competitive First Session
After a competitive Pinehurst session on the Ridge nine at Neshanic Valley, Team Transfusion led Team John Daly 3.5 - 2.5. The Pinehurst is a unique alternate shot format, with partners playing each other's drives, selecting the best approach shot, and playing alternate shot until the end of the hole. Scores were slightly higher in this challenging format than in the four ball session.
In the concurrent medalist competition, the sides of Merrow/Meade and Finan/Augusterfer led with net 34s.
Team Transfusion Pulls Away in the Second Session
The second session was dual four ball and singles matches conducted on the Lake nine as the rain appeared for the remainder of the competition. Team Transfusion won the first four four ball matches and eight of the first nine singles matches (while tying the other) to pull ahead and win the inaugural Cart Rider Cup over Team John Daly.
To make the final tally a little closer, Team John Daly won the final two four ball matches and final three singles matches.
In the medalist competition, the Merrow/Meade side continued their strong play to take honors with a net 32 in the session to finish at net 66 (-6) overall.
